More than an Urban Runway

Years later, as the photog looks at the nature of photos taken, his mind wonders a bit about what ever happened to the lady called Patna. Sure, back then, it was cute to be called “partner”. It used to sound funny to hear it pronounced partnah… but then… his hood was not her hood.

Does she even remember the words of encouragement? Does she remember the photo session? Does she remember feeling alive and happy?

There is no way of ever knowing. What is clear, she needed someone to believe she was a good person. In those few moments of taking pictures, the photog was convinced that she got the message.

Today… many years after the fact, the strength this lady has to push through keeps him motivated to keep pushing for his own goals. This lady has blossomed in her own unique way and found her voice. She’s not what others wanted her to be, but that is OK. She’s being true to herself and making her way.

Sometimes, we all an use a bit of a boost on our journey. The photog has the satisfaction of being one of the few encouraging voices this lady heard during a time she questioned everything about her life.

Whenever you’re able to be nice, be nice for the sake of being nice. You have no idea how much it may help someone who is in need of niceness. Encourage whenever you can. Support whenever you can. Your voice might just be the only voice that holds them that very day.

People are not always as they appear to be. They’re full of contradictions at times. When they’re given the chance to shine, the art in their stance becomes evidence as it stands out from the background that colors their reality.

Everyone wants to be understood. No matter how different the appear to be. In time, they will find their way to their tribe and fit in just fine. Just don’t be that negative voice that blocks their way to their own tribe. That was the biggest lesson the photog took from that day taking photos in an urban construction site runway.
