Ideas Come From….

Tuning into feelings

Without getting all sappy or anything, feelings are not things us guys like to dwell on much. However, everyone has feelings. Not everyone has names for their feelings. The ability to expand the vocabulary of feelings is very helpful in coming up with new ideas and concepts to write about.

Originally… tuning in meant…

In the early days, writing was a way to make sense out of what was brewing inside. Those thoughts never saw the light of day. Just a journal entry that would quickly get burned afterward. Couldn’t risk anyone knowing what was going on inside.

With time, I was able to develop a vocabulary to describe the waves of “mess” that flowed within. And as the waves had an escape onto paper, I started to be better acquainted with what I was feeling. Words in black and white are a bit harder to ignore as they stare back at you.

As the ability to identify my feelings improved, my ability to process them started to improve as well. Writing then became an escape or therapeutic outlet. Exploration of possibilities started to sharpen and grow.

The creation of worlds

With time, as experiences would happen, writing became a way to relive moments, slow them down, play with them, move them around, and take on various perspectives. This allowed my imagination to solve complex teen issues without letting the world see me struggle. The paper solved many crisis so the world saw me as well put together. Something I always wanted to be.

In adulthood, that methodology lost some of its effectiveness. My insights into myself matured. I am no longer going through hormonally driven rocky phases. Writing has become just something I did when time allows just to create a concept I don’t have time to daydream about.

The early days of this blog, writing was something that was a timid experiment. Would the world care for any of the ideas I had. Speaking on stage at an event was one thing, but to have your ideas exposed to a broader audience was outright scary. I don’t like sitting in a place where I’m scared.

So, to overcome the fear, the only thing I could do was start a blog. There was no other alternatives to get that negative feeling out of my system.

Very glad I did.

The added clarity, added freedom of thoughts, and ability to create helped me out with embracing other creative worlds.

I still pull inspiration from the environment in which I live, but I’m now expanding into the virtual environment in which my digital self lives. Nothing like watching what others post on Facebook or Instagram to provide inspiration for something to write.

Not everything that I witness will become a blog post. There is just way too much coming at me to grab and create a blog post for. Plus, not everything that needs a written anything. However, whenever stuck for ideas, just look about what others are creating, something is bound to give you an idea.
